On Friday, Sept. 19th, we went on a trail that was completely new to us. Pastor Kim, on the right, invited us to her home in Danville to go on a couple of trails in the Sycamore Valley Regional Preserve. It is part of the foothills of Mt. Diablo, which you can see in the background.
The trail head is very near her house. We started hiking about 10:00, and the weather was predicted to be in the 80’s. It didn’t disappoint. The trail, Short Ridge Trail, follows a ridge line above Danville, with open terrain and rolling hills. After a mile or so, the trail dropped down to housing developments and streets. We went along a creek for a ways, then passed an elementary school before starting back up the hill on Sand Hill Trail.
Because of the openness and the heat, several of us found the going pretty tough. I would not recommend this hike for beginners or for weather any hotter than we experienced, although the trail is quite well used by dog walkers, runners, etc. The total hike was about 4.5 miles.
