On July 26th, our group visited Filoli Gardens in Woodside. We wanted to hike in the surrounding area, and could only go on the weekend with a docent. Our group was large, so we were divided into 2 groups, each with our own docent. The volunteers were very knowledgeable about the history of the house and gardens, and the plants in the area. We hiked on well maintained trails for about 2 hours, then had lunch in the cafe. After lunch, we toured the house and gardens surrounding the house. There were several walled gardens, a cutting garden, ponds and water features. It was built in the style of the great houses in Europe. We were glad the gardens around the house had just been planted with colorful, summer plantings. This was a memorable trip.
