On January 10, 2014, we started out our new year with a hike in one of our favorite parks, Round Valley. One of the reasons it is a favorite is the great variety of terrain. We started out on the Creek Trail which follows a mostly dry creek bed. We have not had much rain this fall, although there was green grass on the hillsides. Then the trail has a nice up-hill climb to a saddle–longer than we remembered. After crossing the hill tops, the trail dips down to the valley floor. We met several hikers on the trail, as this is a popular spot. After walking along the valley floor for a bit, we had two final short up hill climbs before we got back to the parking lot. The total distance was about 5 miles. Good way to begin 2014.
